Elopements have been gaining a lot of popularity over the last couple of years and rightly so. They’re a great way to break out from the tradional, big wedding mold and turn your wedding into something unique, fun, adventurous, and most importanly you! Here are five great reasons to elope.
A Traditional, Big Wedding Just Doesn’t Feel Like You
For many couples the thought of a traditional wedding just isn’t exciting. Whether it’s the idea of being the center of attention all day, large gatherings, or the traditional nature of big weddings – some couples simply want something different. If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. Every year, more and more couples are opting to eschew traditional, big weddings and opt for reimagining their wedding day on their own terms.
If you’re feeling as though a big wedding isn’t for you, then eloping might be the right option. The smaller nature of an elopement tends to allow for a more relaxed experience and one where you can focus on yourselves rather than being entertainers. Elopements also tend to open up more options for locations and wedding day activities that can elevate your experience in ways that feel more authentic to you.
An Experience Tailored to You
Due to their smaller size, elopements tend to be a lot more flexible when it comes to planning. Many couples choose to build a larger experience around their wedding day that heightens their experience in ways a traditional wedding can’t.
Some couples choose to go on an epic adventure and have their ceremony on the side of a mountain, or tropical beach, or lush forest. Still others, will make a day out of exploring their hometown or city doing all the things that bring them joy.
An Extended Honeymoon
If you’re considering traveling for your elopement, you have a great opportunity to plan your wedding and honeymoon together. You can arrive and have your wedding the following day, then stay longer and continue exploring. This can really allow you to make a deeper and more intimate connection with your wedding location.
Then there’s the added bonus of consolidating costs and reducing travel time. This might allow you to be able to extend your honeymoon longer and still spend less than what you would with a traditional wedding.
Less Drama, Stress, & Anxiety
One of the most common things I hear from couples is just how stressful planning a big wedding is. For many, by the week leading up to their wedding they are just looking forward to all being over with.
Family drama, guests lists, decorating decisions, unexpected changes, managing vendors, and more unexpected changes can take it’s toll especially if you don’t have a wedding planner. Many couples simply opt to avoid much of this and elope with a small group of close friends and family.
Incredible Photos
The last reason why elopements can be so great is the photos. Not only do elopements allow you to spend more time with each other, but also allows more time for amazing photos. This is especially true if you’re planning to have your ceremony somewhere epic, like a mountain top.
This doesn’t mean an elopement has to be one one giant photoshoot either. You actually in way, get the best of both worlds – more time to soak in the day, and more time for intentional, emotional, and memorable images.
